Chu-chus are an aboriginal species of small, intelligent creatures that, due to Solaris, have been rendered nearly extinct save for a small population in Shevat. In Perfect Works, they are referred to as the Ooki tribe[1], but in-game, they are simply called Chu-chus.

Chu-chu is also the name of a playable character, who also happens to be a Chu-chu.

History[]

Loooong long ago, the Chu-chu Tribe had a great big guardian god, who could step over huge mountains in one step. The Wondrous Mambo god, yes he was! The Chu-chu Tribe and the Wondrous Mambo god lived happily together in perfect peace, yes we did. A dreamy sweet existence. But one day, a huuuge red fireball rained down from the sky, and blew away our guardian god as he was asleep. Blam, kablam, boom! But don't worry! The great big guardian god became a star in the sky! He protects the Chu-chu Tribe, yes he does!!

Chu-chus say their race has lived on the planet "since the beginning"[2], something that is also mentioned by Nikolai Balthasar during a brief exchange.[3]

In 6084, after widespread nuclear war resulted in a nuclear winter, the ancestors of the Chu-chus escaped from destroyed above-ground genetic research laboratories.[4] Due to this, they possess a high intelligence, as well as gigantic bodies, which eventually were shrunk down to their current size due to Solaris' limiters.[1]

At some point, the Chu-chus lived "in the woods with no interference".[5]

When Solaris began exterminating the Chu-chus, several escaped with the Shevat people, while the rest were killed and eaten by Solaris.[6]

Etymology[]

The species "dotesqueChu-Chupolin" only appears in the script once, and is a direct translation from the Japanese script.[7] Like how "sharls" are used as a unit of measurement, it may be meant to mimic an in-universe taxonomy system.

Trivia[]

  • Chu-chu's tribe is listed as 'Ooki' in Perfect Works. This might be a reference to Wookiees from Star Wars.
  • While Chu-Chu's speech pattern adds 'chu's, other chu-chus do not speak this way.
  • In the Xenoblade Chronicles series, Nopon carry many similarities to Chu-chus, being small, furry, and having eccentric personalities.
