Origin[]
| “ | Demi humans, such as Rico and Hammer were born from the results of the messing around with DNA... That was done by ancient Solaris in the hopes that it would bring about the restoration of mankind. | ” |
Demi-humans are the result of genetic modification. Citan mentions that demi-humans were a result of research by "ancient Solaris", but it's unclear when this began.
Perfect Works' first mention of demi-humans was in 6084, when various animal experiments, including the ancestors of the Chu-chu, escaped from destroyed above-ground genetic research laboratories during a time of nuclear winter.[1][2]
Elru was a country of demi-humans. Not much is known about it, save that it is Dominia and Sigmund's home country, and that it was destroyed by Id in 9993. In-game, even the existence of its continental landmass was concealed by the use of Limiters.
By the time of Xenogears, many demi-humans face discrimination. While some regions, such as Kislev, had periods of more tolerance due to a more widespread population of demi-humans, prejudice and attitudes would change from era to era. In the case of Kislev, this change was due to city structure and interference from the remnants of Ethos still stationed there. Solaris used this to their advantage when they modified Rico's demi-human genes while he was in utero, giving Sigmund's lost son a more beastly appearance as he grew up.
Several demi-humans also live on the Thames, such as the Captain, and Hans.
