Doctus (ドクトゥス, Dokuto~usu) is a character who debuted in Xenosaga: A Missing Year and returns in Xenosaga Episode III: Also sprach Zarathustra.
She is an agent of the underground organization Scientia, chiefly responsible for directing infiltration and combat units. She carries out her missions in a calm and collected manner.
Her body is a remote control-type android, operated wirelessly by the real Doctus by projecting her consciousness into its artificial brain to manipulate the body, allowing Doctus to conduct missions in safety without physically being harmed. Her real location is top secret information even within the ranks of Scientia, and is only known by a select few of the higher-ups within the organization. She pilots an A.M.W.S. called Astraea.
She has an interest in Latin and often quotes Latin phrases.

Trivia[]
- Fans have theorized that Melisse Ortus and Doctus may be the same person, although this is not stated outright in the game text. With their mutual connection to Scientia and Lactis/Canaan, as well as similar character designs and recurring themes of justice, it's possible that Melisse is remotely operating the android body of Doctus.
- In the English audio, Doctus is voiced by Mary Elizabeth McGlynn, who also voices Major Motoko Kusanagi, an anti-cybercrime public security field commander who inhabits a cyborg body.
