Grimoire Verum (グリモア・ヴェルム, Gurimoa Vu~erumu) was a scientist from the Lost Jerusalem era, whose research into the Lemegeton led to the sealing of Lost Jerusalem. He appears in Xenosaga: A Missing Year.
Biography[]
Lost Jerusalem[]
Grimoire was the former Chief of Vector Industries's Zohar Research Department at Toronto, Ontario, Canada, during the Lost Jerusalem era.
Grimoire was responsible for deciphering Lemegeton and in turn writing the Lemegeton program, which allowed access to the energy hidden beyond the Zohar.
Using his Program Lemegeton, Grimoire performed a link experiment with the Original Zohar using his daughter, Nephilim Verum, as a test subject. However, instead of activating it, when Nephilim was linked with the Zohar, she vanished.
Undaunted, the experiment continued until the Zohar was activated, leading to a Matter Shift on a much larger scale, far exceeding humanity's control as its effects began to expand over Lost Jerusalem.
As humanity was forced to flee the planet, Wilhelm stepped in and sealed Lost Jerusalem, ultimately stopping the matter shift from spreading beyond the planet itself.
With the loss of Grimoire and Program Lemegeton scattered across the U.M.N, Lemegeton was lost to humanity yet again.
The Fragments of Lemegeton[]
While the Fragments of Lemegeton went on to be analyzed by Joachim Mizrahi to form the basis of the Y-data, its creator Grimoire remained an existence of the imaginary number domain, located deep in the sealed S-Division of the U.M.N. in a place called Ars Nova.
When the events of the Miltian Conflict led to the Fragments of Lemegeton being lost in the U.M.N. once again, Grimoire recollected these fragments, setting on a plan to to resurrect his daughter.
Time of Xenosaga[]
Using the Fragments of Lemegeton, Grimoire manipulated Gnosis to appear in city areas. These Gnosis behaved differently, making coordinated targeted attacks on civilians rather than the chaotic aggressiveness they were known for. They also would vanish after a certain amount of time had passed.
Since these attacks differed from usual Gnosis phenomenon up to this point and contributed to the deaths of many civilians in those cities, they were referred to as Gnosis Terrorism.
Grimoire's intent was to secure the Realian Almadel, who would be the vessel for Nephilim's resurrection.
Using Lemegeton, Grimoire tried to revive Nephilim's consciousness. However, Almadel rejected these memories and sacrificed herself to stop the Song of Nephilim created by Lemegeton. Almadel Gnosified and turned into salt.
Grimoire dissipated for good, taking the knowledge of the Lemegeton with him in his death.
