"And the angel answered and said unto the women, fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. He is not here: for he is risen, as he said." That's the only text I can decipher. The rest isn't in my data.

Jesus Christ, referred to in the Xenosaga trilogy as the Messiah (メシア, Meshia), is a major figure referenced multiple times in the Xenosaga series who directed and influenced chaos and Mary Magdalene, setting into motion several wide-reaching events in life and in death. He is seen physically in Xenosaga Episode III: Also sprach Zarathustra.

Appearance

In Xenosaga, he is a tan-skinned Middle Eastern man with long dark hair, dark brown eyes, and some facial hair.

Biography

He lived on Lost Jerusalem about 6000 years before the events of Xenosaga. who delivered sermons to his followers. These included the members who would go on to become the Apostles, as well as Mary Magdalene, who was his partner, the Maiden of Maria, who would go on to be reincarnated as Shion Uzuki, and Yeshua, his closest friend.

Hailing from the Collective Unconscious, Mary and Yeshua were respectively the bearers of the powers of Animus and Anima, who had incarnated themselves into physical bodies. Following his teachings, they worked as Jesus' disciples and helped him to perform miracles. While he was a mortal man, Jesus had a rare ability to guide the hearts of many, leaving an indelible mark on history. [1]

Words of Lemegeton

Yeshua, due to being the incarnation of Anima, was instinctively able to use the Lemegeton, a program that was activated by "words" only he could speak. This allowed him to access the Zohar and the wealth of energy behind it in the Upper Domain.

Yeshua and Jesus wanted to leave this power to future generations, so Jesus transcribed the sounds that Yeshua "spoke" to the level of human language.[1]

What Jesus and Yeshua did not realize is that the Lemegeton had its own failsafe, in order to correct the balance between the Upper and Lower Domains. When the Lemegeton is used too much, the failsafe would trigger, completely erasing all phenomena that was accomplished using it.[2]

Jesus's Legacy

After Jesus's death, various books promoting his ideology were left behind. However, ones that described Zarathustra and other phenomena, as well as ones where the Lemegeton had been written down were not widely circulated because of their importance, and eventually were lost to history.[2]

Ormus

Later, a religious cult known as Ormus formed, founded by Wilhelm. Officially, it existed to convey Jesus' existence to coming generations and manage the Lemegeton, as well as to obtain and protect the relics of God. However, Wilhelm's true role for Ormus was to have them look for the places necessary for Eternal Recurrence.

Zohar3

The Zohar at Lake Turkana in Kenya.

In A.D. 20xx, a written copy of Lemegeton was found during T. Masuda's archeological excavation at Lake Turkana in Kenya, along with the Zohar and the Compass of Order and Chaos. This excavation was funded by Vector Industries, a company that was founded by Wilhelm.

Grimoire Verum, former Chief of Vector Industries's Zohar Research Department at Toronto, Ontario, Canada, deciphered Lemegeton and wrote the Lemegeton program. Using his program, Grimoire performed a link experiment with the Zohar, using his own daughter, Nephilim Verum, as a test subject. However, instead of activating it, when Nephilim was linked with the Zohar, she vanished.

Undaunted, the experiment continued until the Zohar was activated, leading to a Matter Shift on a much larger scale, far exceeding humanity's control as its effects began to expand over Earth. As humanity was forced to flee, Wilhelm stepped in and sealed the planet, ultimately stopping and containing the matter shift from spreading beyond. From then on, Earth became known as Lost Jerusalem.

Transcend Christ era

The Galaxy Federation adopted the calendar system known as "T.C." for "Transcend Christ".

Wilhelm, as Cardinal Heinlein, convinced Ormus they could return to Lost Jerusalem if they collected the Relics of God, such as the Zohar and the Vessels of Anima, and returned them to their proper form.[citation needed]

Ormus and the Immigrant Fleet were based on planet Abraxas, and also built an uncertain number of churches. One can be seen on Pleroma, and Febronia took care of a church in the suburbs of Dasgupta, Miltia.

Lemegton and the Miltian Conflict

Later, Joachim Mizrahi researched Lemegeton along with the U-TIC Organization, another front for Ormus. U-TIC hoped to use the Zohar control program to use its power to spread Ormus around the galaxy, as well as to return to the holy land of Lost Jerusalem. However, Sergius XVII preferred to focus on the former goal while Margulis preferred the latter.

After the Miltian Conflict in T.C. 4753, Program Lemegeton was scattered through the U.M.N. in the form of Fragments of Lemegeton, something which the transgenic-type Realian Almadel carried. After Almadel's demise in Xenosaga: A Missing Year, Program Lemegeton was lost forever, with the only remaining Lemegeton being the one that Jesus gave to chaos.

Xenosaga Episode III: Also sprach Zarathustra

In Episode III, on Michtam, MOMO Mizrahi finds a quote on the floor about Jesus from Matthew 28:5. It says: "And the angel answered and said unto the women, fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. He is not here: for he is risen, as he said." This is a continuation of Matthew 28:2, which is found in the Y-Data and Rennes-le-Château.

She Who Resembles KOS-MOS

Shion remembers meeting Jesus thousands of years ago on Lost Jerusalem.

When Shion visits Mary Magdalene's tomb, Rennes-le-Château, she has a vision of Jesus instructing chaos and Mary Magdalene on Lost Jerusalem . T-elos appears and reveals the woman Shion has been seeing in her visions was Mary Magdalene, and that Shion is the Maiden of Mary Magdalene.

At the end of Episode III, Shion and her team, Mary Magdalene, and chaos are able to put an end to Wilhelm and Zarathustra. Abel's Ark reconfigures into a shape resembling a cross, wiping out the Gnosis surrounding Michtam.

The Gnosis and the wills of humanity return to Lost Jerusalem, where Mary Magdalene's will is. Shion, Jr. and Allen Ridgeley embark on a mission with the Elsa Crew to find Lost Jerusalem.

Trivia

Crucify

KOS-MOS crucified in Mary Magdalene's tomb.

  • The Zohar Emulators are assigned the names of the Apostles, while the shell meant to house the original Zohar is called "Marienkind," which means "Child of Mary" in German, a name chosen as a reference to Jesus Christ.[3]
    • The U.M.N. database in Episode I gives yet another reference, however, saying that this also refers to a fairytale by the Brothers Grimm about a girl who receives the keys to the 13 doors of heaven from Mary, the mother of Jesus. This girl could be Mary Magdalene or Shion Uzuki.
  • The Zohar's shape resembles a cross.
  • In Episode I, also in KOS-MOS' Encephalon, Shion and her team find KOS-MOS crucified in Mary Magdalene's tomb in the same fashion as Jesus' crucifixion is depicted.
  • In Episode I, when Albedo Piazzolla is terrorizing MOMO by decapitating himself, he quotes Jesus in John 12:24 when he says, "Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit."
  • In Episode II, the cathedral boss attacks with a move called "Love of the Virgin".[1] This is a reference to Jesus' mother Mary, believed to have been a virgin when she gave birth to her son.
