Nexus 6 or Nex is an artificial synthetic Realian dog that Jan Sauer gave to his stepson, Joaquin Rozas.

Nexus is the name of the company that manufactures synthetic animals, and the dog's serial number is D-PA1279094 NEXUS v.06.

At the time, purebred dogs were prohibitively expensive and could not be easily purchased, so synthetic versions were more commonplace.

Nexus[]

Nexus is a company that developed its business around the production and sale of synthetic animals, the Nexus Series.

The bodily structure of a synthetic animal is largely composed of the same materials as a Realian, a synthetic human. However, Nexus does not produce any humanoid Realians.

As loss-of-control accidents and human-rights issues piled up around humanoid Realians after the Miltian Conflict, the production and sale of synthetic animals and expansion of the pet industry became a far lower-risk approach to stable profits.

What's more, since a sharp decline in fertility has led to purebred animals being bought and sold at high prices, the family-friendly price structure of Nexus's synthetic animals is now part of the reason that the series has been continually popular for several centuries.

Xenosaga Episode I[]

He is seen in Xenosaga Episode I in a flashback where Joaquin can be seen receiving the dog from his stepfather. Jan apologizes for not being able to get a "real" or non-artificial dog, but Joaquin does not care in the least, and thanks him for the gift. When Joaquin asks what his name is, he replies that it is "Nexus 6." Joaquin does not like this name because it sounds too robotic, however, due to it being his "model number," and decides on the name "Nex." Jan agrees that it is a great name.

Pied Piper[]

The same scene from Xenosaga Episode I takes place during the timeframe of Xenosaga: Pied Piper.

Trivia[]

  • Nexus 6 is presumably a Blade Runner reference, specifically the synthetic human replicants created by the Tyrell Corporation.
  • Nex is a Papillon.
