A lust for conquest and absolute power, and the desire to have a really big gun. I supposed that'd be the standard explanation.
—Shelley to Mary, theorizing why Jr. acts the way he does.

Shelley Godwin is the elder sister of Mary Godwin, and the navigator and helmsman of the Durandal. Along with her sister, Shelley is often seen with Gaignun Kukai and Jr. She is idolized by many people of the Kukai Foundation through the "Mary & Shelley Fan Club" as well. Shelley is a genius and is capable of performing and excelling in many complicated tasks while navigating the massive Durandal through the far reaches of space.

Background Edit

Shelley is a Übermutant and her parents were Überhumans. In other words, her parents are Designer Children who had artificial modifications made to their bodies and brains. This may be why Shelley has purple hair. She is able to communicate telepathically with her sister via "interlink" which is defined as "An exchange of thought between two individuals who are physically connected via an apparatus, normally achieved by tapping into the U.M.N. network via a control device implanted inside the body."

She was once part of a group of people who were illegally "owned" by a pharmaceutical company that used them as guinea pigs, and heavily drugged.

Twelve years ago, Gaignun saved Shelley and Mary and they made the Foundation their new home. Shelley became Gaignun's secretary and a pilot of the Durandal.

Although Shelley does not show much emotion throughout the game, it is evident that she is extremely kind and caring.

Xenosaga Episode I: Der Wille zur Macht Edit

Xenosaga Episode II: Jenseits von Gut und Böse Edit

Shelley is present during MOMO Mizrahi's analysis on Second Miltia.

Xenosaga Episode III: Also sprach Zarathustra Edit

At the end, Shelley is one of those who embarks on a mission to find Lost Jerusalem, the lost homeland of humanity.

  • Her name, along with Mary's, comes from Mary Shelley, the author of Frankenstein.
  • Shelly's name appears in the playable characters list in the hidden Battle Debug menu of Episode I. While she does not appear playable in the final product, her playable slot was repurposed for the random soldier that joins Jr. and Mary on the U-TIC Battleship.
