Fei and Elly on the Thames.

The Thames (タムズ Tamuzu) was a large craft that functioned as a floating city. It was captained by an eccentric walrus-like person known simply as "Captain" and its helmsman was an anthropomorphic dolphin called Hans. The purpose of the Thames is to salvage materials at the bottom of the sea and sell them to the Ethos.

Xenogears[]

They saved Elehayym Van Houten and Fei Fong Wong when their airplane, the Goliath, was shot down and crashed in the Aquvy region. Elly and Fei first meet Billy Lee Black and his father, Jessie Black, aboard this ship.

The Thames is eventually destroyed by the Seraph Angels but Captain and Hans both survive and are found at Shevat, which was also destroyed. Hans now has a wife and step-kids.

Minigame[]

The Thames was also host to a minigame - a card game called "Speed." It is the only place where the option to play the game is available. On disc 2, it can be played with Hans' step-daughter Kanna in Crashed Shevat.

Etymology[]

Thames appears to be a mistranslation of the Japanese rendering of Hebrew תמוז Tammuz. This would be in line with most of the other countries in Xenogears being named after months of the Hebrew calendar. If so, then Elru (エルル Eruru from אלול Elul) was also mistranslated, while the others—אב Av(eh), כסלוו Kislev, ניסן Nisan and שבט Shevat—were mostly still recognizably Hebrew. Six other Hebrew month names were not used in Xenogears.
